New York City ♥

Hi everybody!

This time I’m going to talk about a free topic this is “the place that I would like to visit in the world”. And well, my favorite one definitely are the United States of America, specially the state of New York. But the best of it, is that I will travel to this city when I finish the university and I think that it will be the best trip of my life.

I like that country because there are a lot of amazing things, like well-known monuments. I think that New York is the city that meets all that things, like the statue of liberty, broadway, the empire state, etc. That's why people call it "the city of the world". I will try to visit everything. I would like to there on winter holidays to enjoy a nice weather.

I will go to the statue of liberty, Manhattan, the Empire State, Time Square, the Bronx Zoo, Central park, the Moma, Coney Island, and all the really interesting places that are in there.

Well, if you ask me if I would like to live and work there, I would not be so sure about it because in my opinion New York is a stressing city to live. So New York it is mainly my first option to travel to when I have the time and the money, and also I would to visit other countries like France, or Egypt. But will, this is only for tourism because is Chile for me is the best place to live in the world.

I hope, that I would never have to write blogs again, because it wasn’t never easy for me, but I think that I did it the best I could.

This is all!
Bye!

"Chile's bicentennial year"

In 2010 Chile celebrated 200 years of independence an all Chilean hoped that this was a great year. The government had many projects in process of construction such as new cultural centers, museums, remodeling of some cities, etc. with which would do a great celebration and everybody looked forward because obviously only celebrate 200 years once. But nobody imagined that Chile’s bicentennial year would be full of very difficult times and situations too which often make us forget that this was a year of celebration.

In February when we all were preparing to return to work, at the university or school, suddenly we were shaked for an earthquake of 8.8 and a tsunami. This was the worst natural disaster experienced in Chile since 1960. There were many areas in the country affected by the earthquake in where many people died and many lost their homes. Everyone in the country were very sad and they had no desire to celebrate the bicentennial now. The government should worry about the country's reconstruction and many countries around the world sent aid to collaborate with Chile.

Some months after, when people are slowly recovering from the disaster, another unfortunate event occurred. August 5 there was a collapse in the mine San José in the city of Copiapó, 33 miners were trapped in it. The country was devastated again because people believed that the miners were dead. Inmediately started the rescue work and all had great faith that everything would be fine. Then, 70 days after this happened, the 33 miners were rescued alive and the whole country was happy about it. The event got back to the world and this was the largest mine rescue in the history.

Maybe this was not a typical year of bicentennial, but happened many good events too such as Chile´s participation in world cup, the celebration of national holidays, etc. Chile no forgets the events occurred in this year and everyone knows that these events brought us together more as a country too. Finally Chile celebrated the bicentennial year and although the celebration was not as had been thought at the beginning of the year, we can say that the Chile's bicentennial year will always remember him.

"myths and trues about the brain"

Hi everyone!
This time I'll write about Dr. Maldonado's talk which was on past tuesday. He talked about "Myths and trues about the brain". In my point of view this presentation was very interesting because I thought that some myths were true!

Human brain weigth 75 Kg., this is 2% of total body weigth. Also the human brain uses 25% of the oxygen we breathe and it has millions of neurons too. The human brain is wordeful, this organ is responsible for the functionaly of the human body and for this reason the human brain is full of myths.

A myth about the human brain is "You only use 10 percent of your Brain". According to Dr. Maldonado the neurons and other brain cells are constantly in use. Even, when we sleep our brain is fully active, when we are resting our brain is making multiple connections. Every action takes various areas of our brain. For this reason we need to use more than 10 percent of our brain, in fact we use 100 percent of it!. The myth is totally false.

This myth caught my attention because I think that was true it. I had read that the great Albert Einstein used only 10 percent of his brain, but he was a genius and for this I feel that the myth was true.

I think that this presentation give me new knowledge. As a future midwife I must educate the community, for this reason I should know the myths and truths about the human body!

"Talking about stress"

You've had a lot of work or study? Do you have you felt tired or bored lately?, Probably your answer is "yes".

Stress is a physiological response in front of our dissatisfactions or frustration and this is very common in our society. Currently we are constantly subjected to pressures and inadvertently cause us stress. The most frequent causes of stress are: hard work, personal or family problems, fights, discussions and in general any physical or emotional factor that negatively affects people.

Stress causes many symptoms, some objective and others subjectives. Objectives symptoms are tachycardia, flushing, chills, dizziness, headaches, neck pain, back pain, etc. these can cause various diseases. Subjectives symptoms are anxiety, depression, aggression, sleep disturbances etc.

There are several ways to cure stress. For example you can practice some sports or you can go to the gym. Also you can go out with friends or you can travel with your family. But sometimes, stress can cause serious illness
and then you should visit a doctor or a psychologist, who will give you an effective treatment.

I've often felt stressed because
I must study hard to university. At that time I feel tired, boring, sad and very sleepy. But I think that we can control stress and for this reason I breathe heavily and say "I can". Then I try to share more with my friends, I laugh and I enjoy my family and my boyfriend and I'm happy again.

I feel that if you enjoy your life and if you live joyful and happy, you'll never feel stressed.

Well this is all,
see you soon
Bye!

"Women have a right to a home birth"

Hi! This time I'll make a summary about an interesting article named "Women have a right to a home birth".

This article tells the story of a pregnant woman whose GP offers to have a home birth because this would be more beneficial for your baby.

American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (Acog) shows preference for the process of giving birth over the goal of having a healthy baby. They say "ill-qualified midwives have led to a home birth neonatal death rate twice that of hospital births". For this reason Acog opposes home births because "Nobody likes a dead baby." However none of this will help pregnant women make informed choices about their births, where balancing the barrage of information against your own instinct at an extremely emotional time is challenging enough.

But Acog thinks that the home birth is more for the benefit of mothers than babies. In your opinion the home birth endangers the life of newborn, for this reason is nothing to do with some romantic notion of childbirth.

The pregnant woman thought that any romance will be entirely eroded by the time the big day arrives after multiple consultations with the NHS, due to complications that could have been her baby during home birth. But also she thought that she wanted that her baby born in place calm, quiet, familiar surroundings, without towards drugs and intervention in hospital.

Finally, she and her husband decided that they wanted a home birth, because they felt it was best for her baby. She said "So the more the NHS pushed us towards induction and a hospital birth, the more strongly we wanted to be at home and I felt that we would be most confident at home, with a skilled midwife".

On July, she had a birth in water at her home. The baby weighed 10 lb and was a baby big and beautiful. But his size meant that the mother was two horrific days in hospital after losing a litre of blood. However she said "give our son a beautiful, calm and drug-free birth, and hopefully that way of coming into the world will stay with him forever. I wouldn't change a thing".

Enjoy the article!
Goodbye!

"the pill of the after day"

Hi! again!
I'll talk about Dr. Valenzuela's talk which was on past Thursday. He talked about "Postovulatory effects of Levonorgestrel in Emergency Contraception". In my opinion the presentacion was very interesting, besides I think that the topic is very important my future profession.

Levonorgestrel is a drug used as emergency contraception. In our country, this is known as "the pill of the after day" and there are many debates about the real effects of it. Some people say that the drug is abortive and others say that it is not abortive.

Dr. Valenzuela told us that according to studies Levonorgestrel is not abortive. He said that the pill only have preovulatory effects. This drug should be used 0-24 hours after the coito or maximum five days after the coito, but its effect decrease.

In my point of view the use of Levonorgestrel is directly related to ethics. This topic opens the debate about when life begins? The main protagonists in this debate are Catholic Church and Science. I think that the life begins in the fecundation, that is to say when the occyte and sperm unite.

I feel that there are many others anticontraceptive methods for prevent pregnancy. After the presentation by Dr. Valenzuela, I feel that as even not 100% proven that the drug is or not abortive, Levonorgestrel should only be used in special cases for example in cases of rape or teenage pregnancies.

I think that in Chile there are still many years of debate about this issue.

Bye!

Health care: law or business?

Hi everybody! This time I’ll write my point of view about a documentary called “Sicko”. This documentary investigates health care in the United States, focusing on its health insurance. Besides this film compares health system in the United States with health system in others countries as Canada and English.

At the beginning, the documentary shows health problems of people who don’t have a health insurance. Then, you can see interview with people who are often victims of insurance companies. In general, this film shows the deficiencies that have health system in United States, also the inequalities into the system and economic problems of the people who have been defrauded by its insurance company.

Then, the documentary shows health system in the English. In this country health system is based National Health System (NHS), which is funded with taxes people and administrated by government. The NHS is public system free all the people and this provides an excellent health care. I really liked it.

This film made me think about the health system in Chile. In my country, the health system public is free for some people but the quality of the system is very poor even. I think the government needs to invest more resources in the health care public because we current system causes a lot of social inequity. I feel that at this time the health system in the English is a utopia for us.

Health care is a law for the all people, for this reason is very important to have a good health system in the countries.

That’s all,
See you soon
